Emiliano Arellano learned what public service looks like by watching his parents show up. After long days of his mother working two jobs and his father teaching, they would head to Lynwood City Council meetings to speak up for their neighbors.
A proud Lynwood native, Emiliano is now running for City Council to make City Hall show up for residents the same way he’s shown up for his community his whole life.
The responsibility to serve others started early. As a student at 32nd Street USC Magnet, he founded his own organization to feed people experiencing homelessness and support local animal shelters. At Cal State Dominguez Hills, he earned degrees in Public Administration and Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Environmental Studies. He spent four years building the campus's urban farm to grow fresh food in a neighborhood where it was hard to find. That work deepened his commitment to fighting for clean, healthy neighborhoods, and he remains active with East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice in Southeast LA.
At Southwestern Law School, Emiliano devoted himself to helping people government too often overlooks: children in dependency court with the Children's Law Center of California, students facing improper expulsions and special-education denials through Southwestern's Children's Rights Clinic, and survivors of violence navigating the immigration system at the East LA’s Survivor Justice Center during a period of intense ICE enforcement. He also handled misdemeanor diversion cases at the District Attorney’s Office and taught at-risk youth through the Street Law Clinic, where his peers named him "Rising Star" and the school honored him with its Public Interest Graduating Award.
In 2025, Emiliano was appointed chair of Lynwood's Public Safety, Parking & Traffic Commission. He transformed an inactive commission into one that holds the city accountable to one that fixed long ignored problems and demanded answers. His advocacy has gotten potholes filled, and brought new transparency to how the city tracks and responds to residents' concerns.
Emiliano is running for Lynwood City Council because residents deserve leaders who show up, listen, and respond. Drawing on his legal training and record holding city government accountable, he’ll focus on strengthening public safety, protecting immigrant families, expanding access to city resources, and making City Hall more responsive and transparent.
Emiliano is an active member of St. Emydius Catholic Church. In his free time, he plays soccer, goes to the beach, and attends concerts.
